Alan Barnes is proof that charity can thrive online - Telegraph

Alan Barnes is proof that charity can thrive online - Telegraph: "Only the truly steely-hearted could fail to be moved by the story of Alan Barnes. The 67-year-old, born disabled after his mother contracted German measles while pregnant, was knocked to the ground by muggers outside his home in Gateshead and broke his collarbone. On reading a news report which mentioned that he was too distressed to return, a local beautician, Katie Cutler, set up a page on the “Go Fund Me” site asking for £500 to help with his relocation costs. Five days on, it has raised more than £300,000. Barnes professed himself delighted and bewildered; Cutler claimed it was proof that “there were so many lovely people out there”."
