Over 8 weeks this last fall, I had the privilege of working with NGOs from Afghanistan, Cambodia, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, in a series of trainings that took place in Phnom Penh, Beirut and Istanbul. I began my travels in Cambodia, where the HRP was asked to participate in a conference that brought together experts who could advise and train Afghan human rights groups documenting human rights violations – or those who planned to do so in the future. Guest Beneblog by Vijaya Tripathi As a Program Associate for the Benetech Human Rights Program (HRP), I train and support human rights advocates who use Benetech’s free and open source Martus program to securely document human rights violations.

It's been almost two years since I had the opportunity to participate in the first Cambodia Blogging Summer . At that time, Twitter was a place for very early adopters and I used it help get technology T-shirts to bring over the participants. Now we have TweetCambodia that has become a gathering point for people interested in finding and following others who Tweet about or from Cambodia.
How are Cambodians accessing Twitter? The site's helpful FAQ offers four ways that you can Tweet from Cambodia.

Today is her Beth Kanter’s 53rd birthday and she is asking her trusted network to join her to raise funds for the Sharing Foundation , and help send some young people to school, where they belong. Many children in Cambodia do not go to school because their families lack the $10 for a uniform, required for school attendance. We have hundreds of kids who need uniforms In Beth’s words…
And even though $10 may seem like nothing to us, it can make a world of difference for a Cambodian child.

Jay Dedman sent the box of leftover Vloggercon T-Shirts from 2006 and they were hand carried over the Cambodia and presented to the college students being sponsored by the Sharing Foundation.
Now, next step is to get a couple of cameras, some help with skill transfer, and start a video blog from Cambodia. It will take some time to pull together because I want it to see it be sustainable. A few months ago, Jay Dedman posted a message on the videobloggers list that he was moving and had a box of Vloggercon T-Shirts. At the Sharing Foundation, we are always on the

Two years ago, my family and I made a commitment to sponsor Leng Sopharath, a young woman from Cambodia, for her college education through the Sharing Foundation 's education program. Without the Sharing Foundation's college education program, she would not be able to make a better life for herself. My exploration of using social media tools and personal fundraising strategies has been devoted to raising money to help support young people like Leng Sopharath through the Sharing Foundation's program.
