Many community platforms, whether simple or complex, offer a large number of options for user interaction: user-generated content contributions, discussions, groups, wikis, blogs, real-time communication, Twitter-like updates, photo galleries, collaborative file management, etc. Iterate. Don't expect to get everything right upon first launch.

Now, for the next tool of my affection: wikis. couple of months ago Laura Quinn, our Executive Director, asked me look into using a wiki to help with version control when having people review our upcoming Field Guide to Software for Nonprofits: Fundraising, Outreach, and Communications. I'm a wiki convert!
There was a really useful discussion thread on the NTEN list for requests about wiki software and summarized on the blog. contributed my two cents about wiki adoption off the top of my head and Rob did a great summary of my advice and also from others -- so I'm posting here for the next time I want to think about wiki adoption.
The goal of this wiki is to provide a source for strategies and tools in the social media sphere specifically for NONPROFITS. There are many excellent existing social media guides, articles, resources, checklists, and training materials in the nonprofit sector and beyond. hope some of you will join me in contributing to the wiki!
