Over the course of my trip to New York City this weekend, I realized exactly how valuable my iPhone is. went online on my iPhone, looked up the nearest 24 hour gym in their network, and copied and pasted the address into the Google Maps application. It has a GPS to tell you where you are. In about 2 minutes, I was on my way.

Not totally true - there exist Firefox plugins that will expand them for you - but it is true for most users.)  From a shortened url, you can’t tell whether the destination is the New York Times, a non-profit, a personal blog, or something far less reputable.  They are run on websites with names like bit.ly Period.
