So news to share from the Social Actions galaxy: The number of kinds of online platforms and action sources for the Social Actions API continues to soar – well over 50 sites, now, plus Twitter and Delicious #takeaction tags. Over the course of my trip to New York City this weekend, I realized exactly how valuable my iPhone is. went online on my iPhone, looked up the nearest 24 hour gym in their network, and copied and pasted the address into the Google Maps application. It has a GPS to tell you where you are. In about 2 minutes, I was on my way.

Last Friday, Social Actions hosted a conference call for its 50+ action sources and other partners to discuss the launch of a new platform called All for Good (event description and list of 60+ participants posted here ). built with support from The Craigslist Foundation, Google, and nonprofit partners. don’t work for Google.

Imagine applying all that neat stuff at Netsquared or when Beth talks about social media to New York City politics. Be nice.

On to the original article… Launched today, Google Voice is the newest update to Grandcentral , a service I’ve used since near its inception. The tech press points out that Google Voice is a direct challenge to other established for-profit services such as eBay’s Skype, Vonage and Comcast.

My arguments here are NOT intended to stifle the many experiments in trying to bring the new Web to our sector. It’s just that there are long-standing, non-technological barriers of entry to these new strategies and they underlie many other concerns. Always look for new tech opportunities AFTER you learn the business.
