Traditionally, tech clubs hold monthly "happy hours": informal meet-ups, usually the same day of each month -- like the last Thursday, for example -- where folks are encouraged to get away from their computer screens and get out and be social at a local coffee shop or pub. Jack Eyer, Alabama (our newest - who had their 1st event last week!)
David Folks who've participated in the NTEN community for a while probably know about NTEN 501 Tech Clubs , but chances are even some of our new members aren't too familiar with these affinity groups -- and I want to change that!

For example, in the Bay Area we have San Francisco School Volunteers , and Berkeley School Volunteers. You can help fund everything from Gardening Club Supplies in Brooklyn, to a computer for a classroom in Alabama, or new recess equipment for a school in Indiana. Tuesday was my first day volunteering with the "reading partners" program at my neighborhood public elementary school. Every week I get to go in and read with the same two children for a half an hour each in the school library.

And, a gentleman from Alabama in his sixties posted a video response telling us that he was inspired to get his father (who is in his 90's) a blog! Then, I started to poke around and I discovered an incredible example of intergenerational video blogging -- watch some of the videos by and responses to geriatic1927 As some of you who are following this blog already know, my dad expressed some interest in blogging.
