The Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) is to nonprofit techies what SXSW is to social media professionals. But that hasn't deterred dedicated and passionate folks, younger people, in the nonprofit technology field to take to the social web and ask their friends for help.
I had the pleasure of meeting her back in 2008 at the Making Media Connections Conference in Chicago where I delivered the keynote .

While we're programmatically just starting to tip our toes into social media, we operate efficiently primarily using a variety of web-based services and tools.
We Operationally, C3 has standardized around Salesforce's Force.com which we started using in 2006, and Google Apps which we started using in early 2008. When we first rolled out Google Apps in early 2008 I had visions of a Microsoft Word Judi Sohn, C3: Colorectal Cancer Coalition

AARP California Twitter Account Last week at the WeAreMedia Workshop, someone asked a question about babyboomers and social media use. Is it only younger people who are using social media. Some recent studies on social media and social networking use and baby boomers show that more and more are adopting social media. I answered no. I told the story about posting a video interview with my dad (who was 86 at the time) on YouTube about his first blog post and how I discovered a community of "older" people using YouTube.

It is very easy to get obsessive about setting up the hosted social network, or Facebook group, or CollectiveX groupsite, or Ning group, or whatever (and this is irrelevant to whether it's free to set up or not), and get bogged down in the features of the site.
