I don’t even use iCal or Address Book on the desktop. I’d say that 75% of the time I’m using my iPhone, it’s to access a Google service. I only plug my iPhone in to a computer these days to back up. Everything else syncs over the air to something non-Apple.

As you enter the books and magazines you already own, it lists for you the patterns in that resource connecting you to others who have worked on the same projects. We need yarn, books, patterns and accessories. What worked, what didn’t, how the yarn holds up in washing, etc. Guess what? Knitters spend money. Lots of it.

I try and use voice control to “Call (person) mobile” when (person) is in my address book and the phone searches and dials a pizzeria in Idaho. So many bugs. Apps that start and stop at random times. Inconsistent wifi and bluetooth. I could go on. My phone is not rooted. I only install apps that are well-known/popular.

Give books to needy children or build a performing arts center? It has always bothered me that nonprofits are measured in dollars and cents, and that we’re all lumped into the same pot. Do you want to feed the homeless or cure cancer? We paint “nonprofits” in broad strokes.

She loves to read and it will be great for her to be able to keep so many books with her. An iPhone or iPod Touch is too small for her to get much use out of the keyboard with her fine motor challenges. She can write with Pages. We will turn parental controls on.

While I was with WWD, I worked with Anne Zelenka on her book, Connect! While at WWD I had my posts make it to the front page of Digg a few times, and the front page of Yahoo! once which was a trip. I quit because I prefer to concentrate my professional attention in the nonprofit world. My name is even on the cover.

Students must have a reading book with them at all times. It was cheaper/easier for her to read her books on the iPad as iBooks or Kindle. When there’s time left at the end of a period, or a delay before a program, they’re expected to be reading. If they have nothing with them to read, they’re given demerits.

I manage my diet (recently went back to Weight Watchers), pay bills and manage my finances, handle all my logins and passwords, read books, measure my knitting and so much more. My iPhone is more than just a phone and web-enabled device. I literally live on it.
