I don’t see any value there over Facebook or Twitter or here on my blog. I hope it stays that way. I decided for myself that I won’t be posting “Public&# updates on Google+. But I can tell already that I do like following, sharing and filtering by small groups based on criteria that is very personal to me.

As the subject line says, I want to focus in this blog post on Chatter. Think about what you love about Twitter or Facebook, and it's mostly all here. Imagine if you follow a celebrity on Twitter and your feed contains every @mention sent about him/her. They aren't just on Facebook, or just on Twitter.

I sent out pleas for help on Twitter and Google+. But if my blog vanished tomorrow I know I could get help directly from Automattic. Just a bunch of lame troubleshooting articles that I couldn’t use because they all required actually getting to the group. The group is fixed now. Free/Freemium is a business model.

It was on the PR wire and covered by the major tech blogs. Apple keeps the store closed and the blogs/news sites quiet until after he first mentions the product. Over simplified, think of LinkedIn meets Facebook meets Yammer meets Twitter. Benioff tried to build up the suspense for Chatter. It fell flat.

Don't want tickets/case management, don't want wikis, don't want blogs, don't want "here's what I'm eating for lunch" status updates - need to be able to to tailor interface to only what we need/want. I've been whining about this in Twitter a bit. I'm annoyed by tools that ask for "status updates" a la Twitter as a feature.

It's hard for me to keep a secret this big from my blog for over a year! I'm talking about those places that you can control (Vimeo, Twitter, wrappers, YouTube, etc.). I did it in order of least traffic to most, making the Twitter and Facebook changes last. Facebook was another matter entirely.

While I may kvetch on Twitter about how much I hate the Convio admin interface, overall we’re more satisfied than dissatisfied. I’m sure I’ll have many a blog post on the process as we go. It’s far from free, but if it’s a fit they’ll work within an organization’s budget and needs.

Kind of like if Ning , Google Talk , Gmail , Twitter and Facebook got smooshed together into a single open source environment. As for Twitter, I think that works because what can be lower maintenance than SMS or a single simple column of short messages? I hope Google edits that 80 minute video down to something more digestible.

For example, I blogged about a problem with Gmail rendering back on June 19th. Can’t check email and you run to Twitter search to confirm that others are having the same problem. When you search for your issue among the posts, you typically find nothing but posts from others with the same issue but no solutions.
