When I accepted the job at Convio, I negotiated that it would be okay for me to blog. Blackbaud had too many products. Convio respected and understood the ecosystem it was a part of. Organizations had nearly unlimited flexibility in what they could do on top of what was in the package. I know I'll be fine.

At first blush, although Kintera officially got out the door first, announcing Connect weeks ago, and delivering the APIs and docs on Friday, their play is a good start, but Convio, announcing Open tomorrow, appears to be ahead in terms of providing real openness. Convio has, seemingly, gotten some serious Web 2.0 apps out there.

Finally, Organizer’s Database is open source, but written on top of a proprietary platform (Microsoft Access). CiviCRM was first in satisfaction, SugarCRM, Organizer’s Database, and Democracy in Action were 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. Satisfaction with Convio, Kintera and Blackbaud all trailed these top 4 tools.

Typical issues causing unsubscribes include: recipient no longer interested in your organization, emailing too frequently, emailing inappropriate content to a subscriber (e.g Monitoring your annual churn rate and the unsubscribe rate on each email helps with mid-course corrections.
