Like Austin Texas, & South by Southwest Interactive . At SXSW 2009, with the help of our partners and colleagues, we planted The Beacon: Lounge with a Conscience at the Austin Convention Center, hoping to give nonprofit professionals and the socially conscious community a place of their own. To take our minds off the second blizzard in a week currently bearing down on us here in the DC area, let’s think about happier things. And, ya know, the sun.

I helped coin the term Social Media for Social Good awhile back and this weekend I am making it happen again. Starting at 4pm today they will drive us to downtown Austin and drop us off. Social Media for Social Good Austin Homeless Working Poo Fellow Social Media guy Mike Chapman and I will be joining a street retreat put on by Mobile Loaves and Fishes .
No cell phone.

So as you may of heard the Austin Film Society has a new tenant in the studios they run. The truth behind all the lies is that the Austin Film Society is growing and bringing new business to Austin is an important part of that.
Upgrades to the metal building will include insulation, HVAC, electrical service, and soundproofing–all designed to meet a minimum 2-star rating with the Austin Energy Green Building Program. And people are not happy. Why?

But, instead, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight an Austin-area organization that is making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. The Austin chapter, headed by Holly Krenek, is working with Sundara Yoga to offer unlimited free classes to cancer survivors.
