Announcing… 31 New Favorite Nonprofits for 2013!

Each January Nonprofit Tech 2.0 selects 31 new  “Favorite Nonprofits” to be featured in the Nonprofit Tech 2.0 banner. Nonprofits in previous years were chosen primarily because they excelled at social media. This year, however, the selection process was a bit more personal. Yes… the majority of this year’s nonprofits have also implemented good-to-exceptional social media campaigns, but they are also nonprofits whose missions I care about and feel a personal connection to.

That said, in 2012 I had the opportunity to travel to Africa and Asia and from those travel experiences three themes emerged that inspired the selection of this year’s nonprofits: 1) Women’s and girls empowerment; 2) Conservation of wildlife and wild lands; and 3) Access to medical care. These issues and the nonprofits listed below will be at the forefront of my activism this year as well as the recipients of 10% of my webinar income (more than $10,000 donated thus far!):

1.SOS Children’s Villages International :: @SOS_Children
SOS Children’s Villages works to stop more than half a million children ending up alone, abandoned or in institutions.

2. Wildlife SOS :: @WildlifeSOS
Wildlife SOS works toward protecting Indian wildlife, conserving habitat, studying biodiversity, conducting research and creating alternative and sustainable livelihoods for erstwhile poacher communities.

3. FINCA :: @FINCA
FINCA provides financial services to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs so they can create jobs, build assets and improve their standard of living.

4. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) :: @PETA
PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry.

5. 10×10 :: @10x10Act
10×10 is global action campaign with a film as its centerpiece.Their message is simply this: Educate girls and you can change the world.

6. Girls Education International :: @GirlsED
Girls Education International strives to expand and support educational opportunities for women and girls in remote regions of the developing world.

7. MomsRising :: @MomsRising
MomsRising is a nonprofit grassroots movement working to build a more family-friendly America.

8. National Marine Life Center :: @MarineLifeCtr
The National Marine Life Center forcus on rehabilitating stranded sea turtles, seals, dolphins, porpoises & whales while advancing scientific knowledge and education in marine wildlife health & conservation.

9. Partners In Health :: @PIH
Partners in Health provides health care and social justice for the poor in 10 countries around the world.

10. amfAR :: @amfAR
amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research is dedicated to ending the global AIDS epidemic through innovative research.

11. charity: water :: @CharityWater
charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

12. Vital Voices :: @VitalVoices
Vital Voices works with extraordinary women leaders accelerating peace and prosperity in their communities.

13. Gorilla Doctors :: @GorillaDoctors
Gorilla Doctors provides life-saving medical care to mountain and Grauer’s gorillas in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

14. Population Council :: @Pop_Council
The Population Council conducts research worldwide to improve policies, programs, and products in three areas: HIV and AIDS; poverty, gender, and youth; and reproductive health.

15. National MS Society :: @MSSociety
The National MS Society is a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis.

16. Ewaso Lions :: @EwasoLions
Ewaso Lions is a focused conservation research project in Samburu, Kenya that is working to conserve Kenya’s lions while improving livelihoods of local people.

17. ECPAT International :: @ECPAT
ECPAT is a global network of organisations working together to end child prostitution, child pornography, and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes.

18. Demos :: @Demos_Org
Demos is a national policy organization fighting for a fair economy and inclusive democracy.

19. Alley Cat Allies :: @AlleyCatAllies
Alley Cat Allies is committed to advocating for an end to the killing of cats, leading the movement for change, and protecting the lives of cats—and the people who care for them.

20. American Nicaraguan Foundation :: @ANF
The American Nicaraguan Foundation is a nonprofit that provides basic needs and tools for people to help stop poverty in Nicaragua.

21. Southern Poverty Law Center :: @SPLCenter
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a nonprofit organization that combats hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation.

22. National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare :: @NCPSSM
The National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare is a nonprofit advocacy organization fighting against Social Security & Medicare cuts.

23. National Park Foundation :: @GoParks
The National Park Foundation enriches America’s national parks and programs through private support, safeguarding our heritage and inspiring generations of national park enthusiasts.

24. Wild Animal Sanctuary :: @AnimalSanctuary
The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a 720 acre sanctuary outside of Denver, CO that rescues exotic wildlife and endangered species.

25. Women’s Campaign International :: @WomensCampaign
Women’s Campaign International works to increase the participation of women in political and democratic processes worldwide.

26. Born Free Foundation :: @BFFoundation
The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity working throughout the world to stop individual wild animal suffering and protect threatened species in the wild.

27. Performing Animal Welfare Society :: @PAWSArk2000
The Performing Animal Welfare Society has been at the forefront of efforts to rescue and provide appropriate, humane sanctuary for animals who have been the victims of the exotic and performing animal trades.

28. Alliance for Climate Education :: @ClimateED
The Alliance for Climate Education’s mission is to educate high school students on the science behind climate change and inspire them to take action to curb global warming.

29. Women for Women International :: @WomenforWomen
Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies.

30. Clinic In A Can :: @ClinicInACan
Clinic in a Can builds self-contained medical clinics built in a shipping container. These clinics are built in the US and shipped, ready to use, anywhere in the world.

31. National Gay & Lesbian Task Force :: @TheTaskForce
The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force works to  bolster the strength of local LGBT activism in rural enclaves, small towns and cities nationwide.
