The crusade for digital inclusion, an undertaking still well underway here in the United States and throughout the developed world, is also alive well in rural regions of Africa. As discussed in a recent report from Jim Lynch at Techsoup, the NGO MyDigitalBridge just recently started its work in the mostly rural nation of Namibia.

David Barnard has completed six of these grueling races: The Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa (its name is derived from a Tswana word meaning "the great thirst"). The Namib Desert in Namibia (has the highest sand dunes on earth).

Sure, work is being done and lives are being improved, but the impact is often times minimal. A portion of sales from each shirt also aided the zoo’s work to conserve wild orangutans. Similarly, a portion of proceeds aids CCF’s work. But this is just one way that nonprofits and causes can combat slacktivism.

That basically entails figuring out how to allow staff and volunteers to get work email, documents and other data on their own mobile devices – and what to do when phones and tablets get lost or stolen. That makes them the official NPTech organization of the year, but we found some pretty outstanding work going on among others as well.
