I'm getting ready to head to the Social Enterprise Summit 2009 next month in New Orleans. I'm especially excited about the significant focus on public policy and advocacy for social entrepreneurship. We were lucky to have the support of the Surdna Foundation for a policy-specific conference track.

I just got back from Foo Camp 2009, which was a blast as usual. I did a session on technology that does social good but doesn't make money, and got a dynamic group to show up. I think this is my third or fourth Foo Camp, and the energy around public uses of technology was palpable.

Enjoyed my day in Berkeley yesterday at the Craigslist Foundation Bootcamp 2009. They had more than 1000 folks show up to talk about service, nonprofits and social action. I thought Arianna Huffington did a good job as the opening keynoter hitting on the service theme. Announcing All For Good was a big piece of the event, of course.

Last October, I had the pleasure and honor to visit the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, to accept on behalf of Benetech the 2011 CASE Award for Enterprising Social Innovation (ESI). We are grateful for CASE’s recognition of Benetech's work.

I have disruptive approaches to social innovation in mind, with an increasingly connected society where the cost of prototyping and deploying new products is extremely low, and where innovation is no longer the sole purview of well-funded for-profit corporations. The time has never been better to think 10X bigger!

Gather a group of social entrepreneurs to brainstorm ideas to improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities, and you will harvest an array of innovative solutions. Recently, I had the pleasure to host Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) for exactly such a meeting of minds with ten fellow social entrepreneurs.

Although I began reading academic papers that described the social and political climate in Colombia, as I dove into the data, I never saw the names of victims-- only counts of those who had died. The most recent NNs that arrived at the cemetery at the end of May, 2009. the “no-names” or buried people whose names are unknown.
