69% of the organizations they looked at raised more online in 2009 than in 2008, while 31% raised less. The Chronicle of Philanthropy's annual assessment of online giving came out in April, based on data from 176 of the largest nonprofits in the U.S. Its findings included: 14% growth in online giving overall.

I’ve previously posted resources for nonprofits coping with the economic downturn ( Coping with a Troubled Economy , Fundraising Survival Guide , Economic Effects on Philanthropy ). For example, estimates for unemployment for 2009 are 7% to 8%; in contrast, in 1933 unemployment peaked at 24.9%. in years with a recession.
