Marc Andreessen, who is, of late, connected to Ning, has a great blog entry with details. Google has a number of partners, including social network sites like LinkedIn, Friendster and Ning, as well as Salesforce, which does have very interesting implications given the increasing use of Salesforce in the nonprofit sector.

Facebook has increased its community by 161% in 2011, and while Twitter is not used as often by nonprofits, the Twitter community only grew 2% in 2011 - not a drop in the bucket to its 535% growth from 2009. FourSquare had the most substantive presence among the newcomers with 4% of nonprofits utilizing the platform.

We at the Diabetes Hands Foundation started the Big Blue Test in 2009 with a simple premise meant to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity for diabetes management: testing your blood sugar, exercising 14 minutes, testing your blood sugar again and sharing the results with the community.

Source: Weather Channel Alerts 2009 was looking like a very uneventful hurricane season. He set up a Ning site Hurricane Information Center. That is until Hurricane Ida slammed into El Salvador killing 91 people as of this writing. It is now headed towards the gulf coast of the US.
