It found that if they needed help and couldn’t reach 9-1-1, one in five would try to contact responders through a digital means such as e-mail, websites or social media. Several websites were set up to help family members find out information about each other in the chaos. That’s why the Atlanta councilman used twitter!

This is my second year as a "sister," which means that I pay $27 a month to support one woman for a year while she goes through a program to help her rebuild her life after war. That's the story of Women for Women.

Last year we piloted it, in 2009. We call them editorial midwives, because they're helping these women really find, and birth their own voice and vision. What they're coming up with, what they're saying, and how they're organizing. So, we started this program. We had 500 women apply from 90 countries. I'm totally addicted.
