According to a study by The Russell Sage Foundation and The Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, the GFC reduced total giving by 7 percent in 2008 and by another 6.2 percent from 2007 to 2008, and by nearly 32 percent from 2008 to 2009. We have to apply lessons learned from the GFC. This decline is not anecdotal.
