In May of 2008 when I joined The Lumpkin Family Foundation I was given the challenge to figure out how to develop a network to support the nonprofit capacity building work of The Foundation in downstate Illinois. As a member of the planning committee, I became even more geeked out about this intimate, interactive learning opportunity.

Since the first American L3C was started only in 2008, this concept is relatively new to the business and legal world. As of December 2015 , L3Cs are only recognized in 10 states, three tribes and the territory of Puerto Rico, so if you are building your organization in one of the following places, yes you can! It became a commercial company in 2008. Willie Cade was also involved in the creation of the Illinois Electronic Waste Recycling Act , which is the model US recycling law with a defined flow of material that is designated for reuse and refurbishment. PCRR of course is R2 certified like our other refurbishment partners.

On April 15, 2008 I talked with Janessa Goldbeck, the Director of Membership at the Genocide Intervention Network, about what we can all do about genocide. I first worked as an outreach coordinator for the Great Lakes region, which is six states: Illinois, Ohio, and a bunch of others around there. Someone should have done something.
