The Social Enterprise World Forum 2008 was great for gaining a perspective on an island with a great deal of innovative social enterprise. I placed a more extensive upload of photos from the Social Enterprise World Forum 2008 on my Flickr pages. My guess is that roughly 80% of the attendees were from Scotland and the rest of the UK.

By the time she was hired as a proofreader and scanner in December 2008, Mayrie had played a key role in contributing more than 1,000 accessible books to the collection. Mayrie, who was blind, began working with Bookshare as a volunteer in August 2006 and earned her membership by scanning and submitting books to the collection.

Neil Soiffer of Design Sciences took this nice picture of me on the top of the mountain for the ICCHP conference's Mountain Attack on July 12th, 2008. However, most times that means I'm not in the picture. Of course, I had forgotten to bring a jacket, so I used a handy conference umbrella during a brief rain on the mountain top.

Well, I just got my first one out in 2008! Benetech Update: Summer 2008 I'm thrilled to be writing you this update, because this year is unusually exciting even by Benetech standards. You can imagine the impact of Bookshare.org going from a $1 million per year enterprise in 2006 to over $7 million in 2008.

In 2008, we were the first customer of Samasource as they were getting started. She runs a for-profit social enterprise named Daproim that provides data entry services using disadvantaged students as their primary workforce. We go way back with her firm.
